Turning course

Woodwork is fast becoming one of Britain's most popular leisure pursuits. Amongst these, woodturning is a craft with relatively low startup costs which makes it ideal for the hobbyist and aspiring professional alike, providing many years of enjoyment once the basic skills have been mastered.
The course I run is a comprehensive introduction, leaving the participants fully qualified to develop these skills safely and successfully.

After an introduction, including advice on equipment, materials and safety, day one concentrates on spindle turning. Each tool is looked at thoroughly; how to sharpen it, what it produces and how to use it. The emphasis is on student participation since the only way to get the feel of the tools is to actually use them. Once practiced at using the tools, the student moves onto projects such as tool handles, ring trees and eggs; at the end of the first day having several items they can be proud of.
Day two, after an initial recap, focusses on bowl turning.Starting with a short demonstration, the student is soon putting their new found skills into practice and can expect to finish the day with at least two bowls to their name. Included in this section is advice on the various finishing products available and how to use them to achieve the desired effect.

Held at my woodturning workshop at Alby Crafts in Norfolk, this course will furnish the student with all the necessary skills to develop this fascinating and rewarding craft.
